Laparoscopic gynaecological surgery
Keyhole surgery for gynaecological conditions, carried out through small incisions by a surgeon fellowship-trained in minimal access surgery.
Minimal access surgery
What laparoscopy is
Laparoscopic surgery is done through a few small cuts in the abdomen rather than one large one. A thin camera shows the inside of the pelvis on a screen, and fine instruments are used to carry out the procedure.
Dr. Deepthi Raidu holds a fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery. Consultations and assessment take place at Sharada's Urban Clinic; the operation itself is performed in hospital.
What it is used for
- Diagnostic laparoscopy, to find the cause of pain or difficulty conceiving
- Evaluation and surgery for ovarian cysts
- Assessment of fibroids
- Evaluation of the fallopian tubes

Is keyhole surgery right for you?
Not every condition or every patient suits it. Whether laparoscopy is the right approach, its risks and the alternatives are all discussed with you before anything is decided.
Why keyhole surgery
What small incisions change
Smaller incisions
A few small cuts instead of one large one, which usually means less pain afterwards and smaller scars.
Recovery
Most people go home sooner and return to normal activity faster than after open surgery, though recovery depends on the procedure.
A clear view
The camera gives a magnified view of the pelvis — which is also why laparoscopy can diagnose problems a scan cannot confirm.
Questions
Laparoscopic surgery questions
How long does recovery take?
It depends on the procedure. After many diagnostic and minor procedures people return to light activity within days; you will be given specific advice for yours.
Is laparoscopic surgery safe?
Like any operation it carries risks, including infection, bleeding and, rarely, injury to nearby organs. These are explained, with the alternatives, before you agree to surgery.
Where is the surgery done?
Consultations and follow-up are at Sharada's Urban Clinic in Madhura Nagar. The operation itself is performed in hospital.
